Kaija Aarikka

Kaija Aarikka was a Finnish designer who started the success story of Finnish design by founding Aarikka. Kaija's remarkable ability to see the beauty and authentic details of nature defines Aarikka's distinctive design. The items designed by her have found their way to millions of homes around the world. Kaija Aarikka's products beautifully enhance the natural features of wood. Their timeless design language and aesthetics make each item unique and characteristic. 

Pia Isotupa

Pia Isotupa works as a fashion designer at Aarikka. Her design combines creativity with timeless aesthetics, which defines Aarikka's entire selection of clothes and bags. Pia finds inspiration especially in versatile materials, with which she creates rich and fascinating layers into the collections. Pia creates a strong, characteristic, and impressive atmosphere into the collections by combining thoughtful cuts, forms, patterns, prints, and details. 

Jenni Orvasto

Jenni Orvasto works as a fashion and home item designer at Aarikka. In her products, Jenni prefers natural materials, such as wood and metal. Jenni finds inspiration in the surrounding world, art, nature and earlier decades. The products designed by Jenni brighten up the everyday life and festivities year after year. 

Jewellery and fashion

Aarikka is known for its home décor items, but it is deeply rooted in fashion. During our story of over 70 years, we have seen numerous eras of jewellery and fashion, throughout each of which we have cherished a distinctive and recognizable design. Even today, we design our jewellery and clothes by ourselves—carefully from start to finish, without cutting back on working hours. That is why our jewellery and fashion collections speak the same design language, creating a timeless and stylish unity. 

Jewellery

The jewellery collections find their inspiration in both present and past: fashion, nature, urban environments, and Aarikka's iconic items from the past are clearly visible in Aarikka's jewellery selection. The pieces are more than jewellery—they are masterpieces that carry a fierce and unique story within. 

Wood has always been the most important material of Aarikka's jewellery. Even today, our jewellery designers honour Aarikka's heritage of wooden craftsmanship by creating wooden jewellery that exudes beauty and style. Wood is a quite rare material used in jewellery, yet it has unique features that help the designers to create pieces that are distinctive in colour and forms. Designing wooden jewellery requires collaboration with craftspeople as well as understanding of how wood acts and must be worked to achieve the best possible results. Because of this, each piece of wooden jewellery by Aarikka is a characteristic and timeless piece of craftsmanship. 

Fashion

Aarikka's fashion is defined by a characteristic design language and strong design heritage. The clothes and bags find their inspiration in the surrounding world as well as products of Aarikka's history and present state. All design is guided by the purpose of creating products that capture the spirit of time, always ensuring high quality and durable design. 

Like in other products, the production creates the guidelines even for clothes and bags: in addition to the stylish appearance and intended use, it is important to consider the technical execution, the correct fit, and the feel and durability of the materials. This is why we always choose our suppliers according to their specific skills and expertise and collaborate with them from the design phase all the way to the quality control of the final product. We want to design each of our items for use, which is why our clothes and bags are always of high quality, comfortable, and timeless. 

Home items

Aarikka's home items are designed to bring joy and beauty into everyday life. They find their forms in deep collaboration with the production down to the finest detail to ensure that each product is perfectly designed. The selection of home items includes a wide range of products from practical tableware to impressive wooden sculptures, all of which are defined by Aarikka's characteristic and cohesive design language. 

Aarikka's long design heritage defines and inspires the design of home items and seasonal collections even today. By finding inspiration in the history of decades, the designers revive items of the past and come up with new uses for existing products: the iconic Ram is featured in the patterns of home textiles, the characteristic wooden beads become a dumbbell for a strong Elf, and a wreath of wooden beads decorates the neck of a stylish glass vase. 

Like in jewellery, wood is an important material even in the design of home items, which can clearly be seen in the design items that Aarikka is most known for: the Rams, Elves, and Empress candleholders. The materials, colours, and small details of wooden items are carefully selected, because this is the only way to create products, the design of which stands the test of time. Timeless design is honoured in the design by creating new colours for existing products and developing new products for festive seasons—such as Elves, each of which has a clear purpose.
