jewellery care guide

Beauty of jewellery through the years.

Like clothes and accessories, jewellery needs the right treatment based on its material. Follow these material-based care instructions to take care of your Aarikka jewellery.

Wooden jewellery

  • Wooden jewellery can be washed with mild cleaning solution and lukewarm water, with very gentle rubbing. Avoid soaking your wooden jewellery.
  • If your wooden jewellery has been exposed to long-term moisture, dry it well with a cotton cloth and let it air dry. Do not use blow-dryers and other forms of heat to avoid the wood cracking.
  • The earring hooks and studs can be cleaned with a silver cleaning cloth. Other wooden jewellery pieces are jewellery metal and can be cleaned as wooden jewellery.
  • Avoid wearing your jewellery when you sleep, go to the sauna, exercise, and swim.
  • Store your jewellery in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Avoid storing your jewellery in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture.
  • Remove your jewellery in activities, where they can be scratched, e.g house and yard work.
  • Avoid spraying perfume or hairspray on your jewellery.
  • All our wooden jewellery is made and put together by hand in Finland.
  • Our Aikapuu clock faces are made of maple or ebony. The cover is glass and straps are nylon. Aikapuu clocks have the Miyota 2025 Quartz machinery.
  • Aarikka’s wooden beads, made of maple, are dyed and rounded in our manufacturing process to high-quality, round beads.

Silver jewellery

  • As silver is a soft material, avoid using force when cleaning your silver jewellery. This can scratch the surface.  The silver surface can lose its shine and appear matte but regain it in use. Silver can be polished in a jeweller’s shop.
  • Dirt and dust can be washed off silver jewellery with mild dish soap and warm water. Silver can be soaked for a few minutes and then rinsed with running water. Avoid rubbing your jewellery. Regular cleaning prevents tarnishing.
  • Silver tarnishes over time and can be cleaned at home with a silver polishing cloth. Only use the cloth on silver, not stones or wood. If this cleaning and polishing do not work or the jewellery piece is scratched, consult a jeweller’s.
  • Store your silver jewellery in an airtight bag to avoid tarnishing in a dry place, away from direct sunlight. Clean and dry your jewellery well before putting it in long-term storage.
  • Avoid using your jewellery when you are sleeping, in the sauna, swimming or exercising.
  • Avoid spraying perfume or hairspray on your jewellery.
  • Remove your jewellery during activities, where they can be scratched, such as house and yard work.
  • To make your jewellery pieces last a long time, consider taking your regularly used silver jewellery to the jeweller’s shop for annual cleaning and polishing.
