Care instructions for Aarikka products
All the varnished products are protected by a layer of food-safe resin varnish. However, it is good to remember that a varnish finish never provides a 100% waterproof layer protecting against moisture from within or outside the wood.
Wash a wooden product as soon as possible after its use, under running water, using washing-up liquid and a brush. Do not soak the item. A wooden product is not dishwasher-safe.
Dry the item immediately after use, with a towel, and allow it to dry in such a way that the product is in contact with the air from all sides. This allows moisture to evaporate evenly.
Jewellery and decorative items are not toys and therefore not suitable for small children.
Setting and serving dishes
A wooden product is not suitable for extended storage in the refrigerator, or for use in a microwave oven.
Note: In time, some fine cracks may appear in the product, due to fluctuations in humidity and temperature. This is natural and is characteristic of wood.
PORCELAIN AND GLASS
Mugs and tumblers can be washed in a dishwasher. The mugs are also safe for use in a microwave oven. We do not recommend using the microwave oven for tumblers.
CERAMIC WARE (mortar and herb pot)
The products can be washed by hand or in a dishwasher. Long soaking times, especially with substances that are strong dyes, are not recommended. Stains can be removed by scrubbing with a coarse sponge and/or with the aid of washing-up liquid or a scouring agent. Ceramic products do not withstand impacts or hard knocks. We recommend that you moisten the mortar surfaces before use. This decreases the absorbing of aromas and colours in the ceramic surface.
We use natural cork in the stoppers. Wet the cork portion with warm water, and place the decorative cork loosely in the top of the bottle. This will keep the cork from cracking or breaking into pieces. Avoid using a twisting motion when removing the stopper; simply lift it straight upward from the mouth of the bottle.
The aluminium mobiles do not have a protective varnish, so humidity and air pollutants will dim their surface as time goes by. Aluminium can be cleaned with washing-up liquid, then carefully dried. The mobiles are intended for indoor use only.
The tricot fabric used in making the Aarikka t-shirts is knitted with a circular knitting machine, and this might cause the seams to twist slightly. Wash the t-shirt, inside out, at the temperature indicated in the washing instructions. Use a washing powder suitable for coloured laundry (one that does not contain bleach). After washing, stretch the garment to its correct measurements before line drying. Do not tumble dry.
As wood is such a porous material, we recommend that you put on your Aarikka jewellery after you have applied any hairspray or perfume, and, for example, after skin-moisturiser has absorbed. Also, a wooden piece of jewellery cannot withstand prolonged contact with water (for example, being worn in the shower).
For cleaning silver jewellery, we recommend a silver-cleaning agent or a cloth specially designed for cleaning precious metals. First rinse off the dust and loose dirt under running water. After cleaning, the items should be rinsed with clean water and dried carefully.
Hand wash only, at a maximum temperature of 30 °C, or use normal dry-cleaning. Wash the blanket in plenty of water. Add the washing powder to the water, and allow to dissolve completely. Immerse the blanket in water and wash immediately. Wash by gently squeezing the blanket. Do not scrub, stretch, or twist. Rinse thoroughly and squeeze most of the water out. Press the blanket between towels until it is almost dry. Let the blanket air dry. Do not tumble dry. Iron when still moist or through a moist cloth, at a temperature no greater than 150 °C.
